An defense official has confirmed that the MoD is currently investigating the potential security risks associated with Chinese vehicles, while staff have been advised to avoid discussing secret information in all vehicles.
Safety Advice for MoD Staff
In a recent appearance on LBC, a defence minister addressed reports that MoD officials have been told not to talk about secret material while riding in Chinese vehicles.
He stated that the ministry is “investigating” Chinese vehicles within its vehicle pools, but noted that security is a issue in every contemporary vehicles.
We have a fleet of thousands of vehicles in the Ministry of Defence and Chinese ones represent a very small number.
But whether you’re driving a vehicle from China or a car from another country, our instruction to our staff is to avoid connecting Ministry of Defence technology into their car, not to have conversations at a secret level in any car, because of the increasing risks of surveillance that exist in all vehicle, to only have those secret talks in protected areas. This is a prudent and sensible thing for everyone worried about security.
After it was put to him that it would be prudent for the MoD to stop using all Chinese vehicles, the minister replied: That is exactly what we’re investigating at the moment.”

The announcement comes as claims from Norway and Denmark have warned the UK to the existence of dual-use shutdown mechanisms in Chinese buses, which could allow the Chinese government to switch off buses and bring chaos to public transit.
